Built in 1856 the Beth El Synagogue is located on Pollock Street of Brabourne Road. The Beth El Synagogue is located in one of the busiest & crowded areas of Calcutta (Kolkata) and is surrounded by shops selling anything under the sun.
The alter is crowned with an Apse (Half Dome). The blue coloured Apse (Half Dome) is studded with stars and represents the heavens. Three arched windows with Hebrew inscription are seen on the apse. The central one contains the "Ten Commandments" while the other two contains text from "Torah," the Jewish Holy Book. |
