| Rajarani Temple, Bhubaneswar |
| Raja Rani is considered as the finest specimen of Orissa Temple Architecture. The name Raja Rani originated from the red coloured Raja – Rani sandstone, which was used to construct the temple. Incidental it is the only temple in Orissa made of raja rani sandstone. The temple has long been abandoned and although considered as the finest of Oriya temple its architecture style differs significantly form the traditional Oriya Temple Architecture. Firstly the spire of Raja Rani Temple consists of several sub spire and represents more of Khajuraho style than Oriya style. Secondly the presence of extensive female (including erotic figures) figures on the temple exterior also has an influence from Khajuraho. |
